Alisa Shushkovska is Head of Political and Legal Affairs and Senior Advisor at the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) Ukraine.
Alisa Shushkovska is Head of Political and Legal Affairs and Senior Advisor at the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) Ukraine. She is a legal expert with more than ten years of experience in public and parliamentary affairs, governance, democracy, rule of law reform, the international legal framework, and constitutional and electoral legislation. She is responsible for policy development and advocacy in democracy strengthening initiatives; public representation of IFES policy and legal priorities; building partnerships with senior officials and partner organization representatives; and legislative drafting. Ms. Shushkovska participates in parliamentary and inter-governmental working groups revising legislation to comply with international standards.
Ms. Shushkovska previously worked for the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine on advocacy, legislative drafting, and harmonizing Ukrainian legislation with European and international standards. She was directly involved in developing legislative reforms in security and rule of law, including the framework Law on National Security. One of her areas of focus was the promotion of civil society participation in decision-making in the reform process. Ms. Shushkovska also managed several parliamentary capacity-building and professional development projects.
Prior to her work with EUAM, Shushkovska held a number of counselor positions in private companies. She also worked as an advisor to Members of Parliament in the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs, where she was responsible for legal analysis of election processes and international affairs.
Ms. Shushkovska completed her Master’s Degree in International Law at the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In 2019, she obtained a professional certificate in management and leadership at the Chartered Management Institute, London, United Kingdom.
Alisa Shushkovska is fluent in native Ukrainian and English languages.
